T’was the night before [Preschool] and all through the house
All was calm but my heart, which scampered like a mouse.
The backpacks were hung by the front door with care
In hopes that the morning would find us prepared.
The children were nestled all snug in their beds
While visions of their new adventures danced in their heads.
The [snacks] were packed, the clothes all set out
Nothing else left to do yet my heart gave a shout.
My thoughts were racing with emotions galore,
Such pride, joy and fear and of course a few more.
One more thing –can’t forget, so I fell to my knees
Bowed my head, folded my hands, and softly said, “Please…
Please Lord lead my [girl]. Guide [her] thoughts, steps and heart.
Protect [her] and keep [her] as [she] makes this fresh start.
May Your light shine through [her] from the very beginning.
Help [her] understand there is so much more than just winning.
May [she] be able to discern good choices from bad
Without me beside [her] and holding [her] hand.
Keep [her] safe from all of the monsters that are out there.
Guard us from physical, emotional and spiritual warfare.
Be with the teachers, bus drivers and volunteers
We are so thankful for them, they fill us with cheer.
Because of YOU [she] is ready, because of YOU [she] is here
Remind me that letting go is nothing to fear.
Here they are Lord, the reigns, I give them to you
I trust you will guide me and carry me through.
Give my heart protection as [her] independence grows,
Grant me wisdom to share with [her] what little I know.
May my words be your words, may my thoughts be your thoughts
May I be discerning of when to speak and when to not.”
I paused as my prayer drew to a close
Thanked my Lord one more time then gently I rose.
And as I was going to bed for the night,
God gently whispered, “Do not worry, [she] will be alright.”
I read this on my friend, Mariah's, blog. Her little boy is starting kindergarten. I couldn't resist editing it to be about preschool because it put my feelings into words so well!
